Castello Monaci Piluna Primitivo IGT Salento
PilUna is a monovarietal Primitivo. Estate is a few kilometres outside the Primitivo di Manduria DOC zone, so Piluna falls under the IGT Salento regulations. The name Primitivo derives from the Italian for “first native”, since this is the first black grape variety to be ready for harvesting. The name Pilùna denotes the ancient tuffstone containers used to preserve olive oil and wine.
"Piluna" translates into "pot of clay" or an ancient container used to store water or wine. Broad, ripe black fruit and spice aromas, with notes of pepper, toasty vanilla and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine has a robust, concentrated character, a firm structure, and small black fruit and licorice notes on the aftertaste.
